The Commercial Slip, here reconstructed, once connected the terminus of the Erie Canal with the Buffalo River and from there, Lake Erie. The ruins are foundations of buildings that once lined the slip. The bridge, with its twin arches, is known as a Whipple truss bridge after its designer, Squire Whipple. The building, reminiscent of a building style from the canal era, is home to the Liberty Hound restaurant.
