The Michigan Street Bridge is one of three lift bridges over the Buffalo River and the bridge closest to Lake Erie. This view is looking upriver from a point next to the former DL&W railroad barn. The entire deck rises as one, rather than splitting in the middle. The original bridge was built in 1930 and replaced in 1960 after it was knocked down by a lake freighter that broke loose from its moorings up the Buffalo River. Additional rehabilitation occurred in the 1970s and in 1996.
